The Painting, part 2

Troy, Avery and I, drove out to the Chicago Temple this morning to pick up "The Painting" It was so freezing, and I honestly didn't think we would be able to fit it in our truck, but we did. We were even able to shut the hatch, thank goodness! If we would have had to drive all the way home with the back open, we would have froze to death!!

Anyway, here it is. It actually looks more faded in these pictures than it really is! WE are so very excited to have this painting, not only because my Dad painted it, but because it hung in the Chicago Temple for about 20 years! What a great story! What a blessing it is, to have grown up surrounded by paintings of our Lord, and Angels, and Apostles, etc... It's hard to explain how I feel about my Dad. I love him so very much, and I am so proud of him, and the amazing work he has done for The Church. Everyday, I do all I can to make him proud of me, I am eternally grateful to him, for his faith and willingness to help build up the Kingdom of God. I am so proud to be his daughter...

And just one more thing, we didn't know what painting they were replacing this one with, so you could imagine our JOY to hear, it was replaced with the same painting!!!

This painting hangs in every Temple in the world, by Grant Romney Clawson, my Dad...

"DA BEARS"

Let me tell you something. I have been a lover and a follower of sports my whole life. I have gone to professional baseball games, basketball games, football games, and many other sporting events. I have a "LOVE" for the game, but in my whole life, I have never seen "people" LOVE their sports teams more than the "people" of Chicago!!! It all started when we witnessed the Chicago White Sox win the "World Series" for the first time in like 80 years- This place was crazy!!! They had a parade downtown Chicago, and like 2 million people showed up just to catch a glimpse of "their" team! And you need to remember, the White Sox aren't the only Pro team here, there's also the Cubs, which basically divides all these people, you're either a White Sox fan, or you're a Cubbies fan! The reason I tell you that is, while the people of Chicago are divided on who they love in Baseball, there is no question who they ALL love for Football- DA BEARS!!!
And if you live under a rock, and haven't heard, The Bears are going to the Super Bowl, for the first time in like, 20 years! This place is again, CRAZY!!! It's the first, second, and third thing they talk about on the news!!! As a matter of fact, that's all anybody can talk about is "DA BEARS" You might also be wondering why I keep referring to them as "DA BEARS" Well, Saturday Night Live has many times done skits about Chicago. Sports teams, restaurants, etc...
They did a skit called "Da Super Fans Talk DA BEARS" They poke fun at the "Midwest" accent, and the Crazy love the people have for their sports teams, especially DA BEARS!!!
If you want to check it out, type in Da Bears, and then click on the SNL "Da Bears" it's very funny, and it's right on!!!

Anyway, Troy and Papa were in Indiana a couple of weeks ago, and while they were there, Papa bought Avery a Payton Manning football jersey. Well the Indianapolis Colts, beat "My Patriots" for the very Coveted spot in the Super Bowl! And now they are playing against "DA BEARS" So the other day we went to Costco, and Avery wore his "Manning" jersey! You should have seen the LOOKS we got! "People" could not believe we would dare put our child in the "Enemies" clothing, and walk around Chicago! This guy said to Troy, "Are you responsible for that?" referring to Avery's shirt! Seriously, it was funny!!! So we decided to teach Avery what to say to the "People" when they looked at him that way..............................................................................................................................................................
DA BEARS!!!! Which he says now ALL the time! The moral of this story is, when in Rome, pretend you love DA BEARS and all will be well!!!
GO BEARS!!!

Colby, my sista...

I had been looking through all of my "letters" and cards and stuff, trying to find this "letter" that my sister Colby (pictured here) had written a few years ago. I felt like I really needed to read it again, to help put a little "perspective" back in my life. Even though I'm very grateful for all that I have, I find myself often thinking TOO much about the things I want or need. I make mountains out of mole hills! A little of the subject for a moment- What does it mean when you start using "quotes" your mother used? Mountains out of mole hills??? Anyway, back to the letter. I finally found it, and wanted to share it ...

I am thankful for...

The partner who hogs the covers every night, ...because he is not out with someone else.

The teenager who is Not doing dishes but is watching TV, ...because that means she is at home and not on the streets.

For the taxes I pay, ...because it means that I am employed.

For the mess to clean after a party, ...because it means I have been surrounded by friends.

For the clothes that fit a little too snug, ...because it means I have enough to eat.

For my shadow that watches me work, ...because it means I am in the sunshine.

For the lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning and gutters that need fixing, ...because it means I have a home.

For all the complaining I hear about the government, ...because it means we have freedom of speech.

For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot, ...because it means I am capable of walking and that I have been blessed with transportation.

For my huge heating bill, ...because it means I am warm.

For the lady behind me in church that sings off key, ...because it means that I can hear.

For the pile of laundry and ironing, ...because it means I have clothes to wear.

For weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day,...because it means I have been capable of working hard.

For the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours, ...because it means that I am alive.

And finally...

I am thankful you are my family, ...because I am truly blessed to have you in my life!

Thank you Colby, I love you and miss you ...

The Painting...

Friday night, Troy and I were invited to attend a Temple session, at the Chicago Temple. This marked the "second" time we had left Avery with his sister Kasey. We almost didn't go because I was so worried about leaving him, but after many prayers we decided they would be fine, so off we went. We took Avery and Kasey to our friends Amy, and Kelly's house, so they could hang out with their kids. They had a wonderful time!
This first picture is of our friends Josh and Kalie, they are getting married on Jan. 26th- in the St.George Temple. We won't be able to get to Utah for their wedding, so we didn't want to miss this opportunity to be in the Temple with them.

So we walk into the Temple, and I start asking this guy at the front desk about all the painting. I asked him if he would take us into the Baptismal room so we could see my Dad's painting of "Jesus teaching in the Temple at Twelve" He takes us in there and as we were looking at it, this guy says to me "So your Father painted this?" and I said yes and he then said "Well do you want it?" I was like what? Do I want to "Take" the painting home? He said yes, you can have it, we are replacing it because it's a little faded, and there's a couple dents in it! So I gave him my info and he's going to call me when we can go pick it up! I don't know how were going to get it in our truck, it's really big? We might have to borrow an open bed truck or something? We really don't have a wall big enough to hang it on either, but someday we will! How awesome is that!!!

After a beautiful evening, we went to dinner with Amy,Kelly,Chelsea, and Mike- It was great. We always have so much fun with them, we can't wait to do it again!

Ode to the Eldest Bro...

Happy Birthday to my brother GRIG!!!

My brother Grig is 20 years, 11 months, & 3 days older than me! Today is his birthday, and so I wanted to write a little something about/to him. This picture was taken of us in 2001- it's actually a picture of a picture, that's why it's so dark. All of our "Old" pictures are on our "Old" computer, so I can't get to any of them until we transfer them on to our "New" computer, anyway, that's why it's a little dark and hard to see!

It's probably hard to imagine having a brother that's old enough to be your father, but actually it's a great blessing, especially when it comes to advice, which Grig has given me often, and it's always "Good" advice!!! I can't thank him enough for always believing in me, and never just "Writing" me off, even when I didn't want or (Need, so I thought) his advice!

I've always been able to turn to him, when I've needed him most. He helped us write letters to the First Presidency, when we were trying to get Sealed, which without him, I know things would have possibly been a lot harder, maybe even the outcome would have been different. There's a lot to be said about a well written letter, it seems your taken much more seriously! We are so thankful to him for all of his help!

Over the years I have received numerous letters from him, trying to help me in anyway he possibly could. I often go through his letters, and can find something "New" each time I read them! We may not of "Grown up" together, but none the less, he is my "BIG" brother and I love him with all of my heart!

I wanted to mention just one last thing. If you remember, my favorite and lucky number is "10" but when Troy and I were married, it didn't work out for us to marry on the 10th, so instead we married on the 12th. My Dad wrote us a beautiful tribute about the number 10, which I blogged about a while back, so my brother Grig decided to write us a little something about the number 12. This is what he wrote...

Many numbers have particular import or significance in religious contexts (e.g., 3,7,10,12,40, ect.) Remember the significance of the number "12": the "12" apostles; the "12" Tribes of Israel; a stake high council is comprised of "12" members; the priesthood is received initially by young men at "12" years of age; the only account of a specific event in the Savior's youth (after His birth and subsequent flight into Egypt) was when He was teaching the Jewish doctors in the temple when He was "12" years of age; the number "12" (and its multiples) relates to various quorums of the church (e.g. a full deacons' quorum has 12 members, a teachers' quorum has 24 members, a priests' quorum has 48 members, and a full elders' quorum consists of 96 members), etc. Perhaps you can now add "12" to your repertoire of "lucky" numbers- just something to think about...

Grig, again I love you................Happy Birthday!

The "BOARD" baby...

I'm on the Enrichment Committee, and recently I was asked to "DO" the bulletin board. So I decided I would have to make a few changes. This first picture is how the board has looked since we moved here, 2 years ago. To tell you the truth, I never really noticed this board until I was asked to be in charge of it. So anyway, I was originally going to keep this green, floral fabric, but after a minute of that bad idea I changed my mind, and went to Hobby Lobby. (50) bucks later I came home and started to create something more (ME) Here's the finished product.................................................................................................

It's hard to really see just how darling it turned out but from the responses I received, it was quite a hit!!!! All the lettering is in glitter, and the black fabric is patterned to look like snake skin! Anyway it was fun, I hope everyone looks at it and enjoys something a little different, a little more MEG...

FYI- if you click on the pictures, it will enlarge them, then you can see the detail a little better...

Dinner and a Possum...

Sometimes you just need to cry!!! Yesterday was one of those days for me? Kas, Avery, and I went to church yesterday without Troy. I use to make up excuses not to go to church when Troy was out of town, but I don't want to do that anymore. Kasey doesn't want to miss church, and really I don't want to either. I always have a better week, when we have gone to church on Sunday. Anyway, I felt so weird all day, I just felt so sad and my friends noticed. My friend Lori taught the lesson in Relief Society, and she looked at me a lot, and noticed something was wrong. She took me out in the hall after class and asked what was wrong? I just started crying, and she held me so tight, it was just what I needed. I love her!

Then we left, and before we even got home my friend Kathy called, and asked if we would like to come to dinner? I tried to say no (so I could go home and feel sorry for myself) but she wouldn't take no for an answer. She called twice, just to make sure! She's also my visiting teacher, so she knows me too well, not to call twice! Her whole family meets at her parents house every Sunday for a big dinner. Her Mom is also Kasey's Beehive leader, and she is an amazing woman!

They live in this big farm house, that sits on about 16 acres. Well that's what's left anyway, I believe he said they've sold hundreds of acres, over the years! They have a big fam- just like mine. Five kids, their spouses, and kids, we felt right at home! Dinner was wonderful, then we all sat around (just like my family does) and talked about everything! Sports, religion, kids, jobs, even tattoos, mine of course, and animals- they have wild cats that they feed outside on the porch, and one minute I'm looking at a cat eating, the next minute the cat has moved over so a giant POSSUM could get some dinner! It was crazy, the dog was barking at it, we were against the sliding door looking at it and it didn't even care! As long as you didn't open the door, it sat there eating! Oh the joy of country life!

I am so thankful for the friendships I have made out here! I know I've said it before but I couldn't make it here without them! Kathy, thank you, I love you and I appreciate all you do for me and my family. Thanks for sharing your family with us, we love them also!!!

A busy day, minus a husband...

Sadly, Troy left for Texas this morning, leaving behind his wife, two of his children, and his d.o.g. He'll be gone for 8 days!!! This is the longest time we've ever been apart! My heart aches for him, and it hasn't even been 24 hours, I'm already telling him to hurry home! This pic of us was taking last night, during happier times!!!

But the show must go on, and it did, very, very, very slowly. Our day started early. Kasey, Avery and I went to our friends daughters Baptisms. It was very nice. I love it after the girls get Baptised, and they go put on their beautiful, new white dresses. They always look so darling, and they come out so proud, and excited. I can't wait to see Hallie, in her beautiful white dress, after she is Baptised...

Then it was off to a bridal shower, for my friend Kalie. She is so darling!!! She met her fiance here, while he was on his mission. I know that doesn't sound right? But that darn love bug can bite ya no matter where you are, and no matter what you're doing!!! Anyway, he is from Kanab, Utah- they were going to move there, but it looks like her Mommy (The Relief Society Pres. And my good friend) got her way, they're staying here! Staying here, can you imagine, actually CHOOSING to stay here!!! Inconceivable!!!! Ha Ha, just kidding friends from Illinois reading this blog!~ Love this place, it's great, really!

Then it was home for a much needed nap for Avery! Man he is seriously going through that terrible, horrible, no good very bad stage, age 2.

To the mall, yes we drove all the way (20) minutes to the mall, for nothing! I didn't find what I was looking for, and Avery was still a little on the naughty side, and Kasey was late for a party, so she complained the whole time, lovely, just lovely! Dropped Kasey off at he party, and as if this day couldn't get any better, Avery and I watched "The Polar Express"?????????

Has anyone else seen this movie? Am I the only one that thought someone had drugged their drink before watching it? It was horrible! And the really horrible part is that We watched the ENTIRE MOVIE!!!

Well, we need to go pick Kasey up from her party! Avery is half asleep, and I can't wait to climb into by big empty bed! Well, I mean my bed won't really be EMPTY, per-say, Avery and Kain will be there. Maybe Kasey too, if she wants!

Good night, love you all

A Missionary Farewell...

I have to tell you the cutest thing! We have the Missionaries over all the time, and it's the cutest thing to hear Avery try to say Missionaries! He can't quite say it so he calls them

Me-He's... It takes me back to a time when the Missionaries were coming over to our house in Utah, and every time they came Hallie would announce that the "Members" are here! She was about 4 or 5 years old, that too was so cute!!! Anyway, transfers are coming up this week, and we are very sad. We are very attached to these guys, I just can't say it enough, they will be greatly missed by the Doezie Fam!!! Even though they usually only transfer one at a time, they both will eventually be transferred.
The way the members take care of the Missionaries out here, should be used as the standard of how all wards should take care of their Missionaries! Rarely, is there a night when a family has not signed up to feed them, and even if there is a blank spot, somehow, someone finds out, and asks them over last minute! I hope and pray, if any of my children decide to serve a Mission, they too will be loved like these Missionaries are!!!

An Awesome Dinner!!!

A great big thank you to my friend Amy, for the absolutely delicious dinner recommendation!

Take note, and get to Costco tomorrow, so you too can make this dinner!!!

Get Tri-tip steaks at Costco, rub them with garlic powder, and parsley, and then marinate them in soy sauce, in a big zip lock baggie. You should marinate for at least 4 hours, but I marinated them over night, and it was the best meat ever!!!

You can grill your steak, or cook it in your fondue pot, which we did! It was soooooo gooooood!!! We used beef broth in the pot, and I also made horseradish mashed potatoes, sauteed mushrooms, and green beans! Seriously, cook this ASAP...
